Striking Combo: Push Kick – Straight Knee – Diagonal Elbow
This Muay Thai/MMA striking combination utilizes various striking techniques, working on your kicks, knees and elbow strikes and the overall ability to measure and maintain distance.
The combo starts with the push kick (in Thailand known as the “teep” kick). This kick can be used to create some space against a particularly aggressive, rushing opponent. A well-timed push kick can sometimes throw the opponent on his butt or knock the wind out of him.
If the opponent is still rushing in, the second strike of this combo, a hard straight knee, is delivered at maximum power using the back leg. Practice throwing the knee without lowering your hands and sacrificing your guard too much, as the knee is quite often counter attacked with punches to the head. The straight knee directs the opponent’s attention to his midsection, possibly making him bend down a bit, thus creating an opening for the diagonal/cutting elbow.
