Jab: instructional
Learn the jab with Fightcoach! More at www.fightcoach.tv
The jab is one of the most often used strikes in boxing, muay thai and MMA. It is a quick, repetitive punch used to break the rhythm of the opponent and to measure distance. It is also often used to setup other strikes. Some fighters have honed their jab to be particularly dangerous, and especially in the heavier weight classes, the jab sometimes can even knockout an opponent, such as was the case in the K1 fight Semmy Schilt vs. Badr Hari. The elbow of the punching arm should be kept low for as long as possible, as not to “telegraph” the upcoming strike.
