Basic fighting stance and movement form the foundation for both offensive and defensive movements. The beginning muay thai student should spend ample time working on this vital foundation. Staying light on the feet and relaxing the muscles permits faster execution of movements. The fighter should not cross the feet while moving. Guard should be kept up at all times.
Where should the fighter focus his gaze? The chest area of the opponent is a good starting point, but the fighter should try to keep his peripheral vision active to be able to defend against any attack the opponent might throw.
