Front Kick (ถีบตรง)
The front kick (“teep”) is one of the most used strikes in muay thai. It is used mostly to stop the opponent’s attack or to brake his rhythm and balance. The front kick can be performed using either the lead leg or the rear leg. The point of contact in the front kick should be the ball of the foot, but the heel is used in some situations also. It is important to raise the toes up, as not doing so puts the foot at a risk of injury and diminishes the power of the kick. Forward thrusting hip movement is critical for power. After kicking, the fighter must retract the foot quickly away as to not risk the opponent catching the kick.
