Uppercut (หมัดเสย/หมัดสอยดาว)
The uppercut is a shattering punch that has caused many knockouts in muay thai matches. It is normally thrown from close range as throwing it from a distance puts the fighter at risk of counter attacks. The uppercut is especially dangerous due to the fact that coming from under the eye-line of the opponent, it is difficult to see and block. The uppercut in muay thai is slightly different from the one used in boxing. The knees are kept slightly less bent in a muay thai uppercut, to prevent the risk of getting hit by a countering knee to the head.
