Striking Combo: Jab, Cross, Left Hook to Body, High Kick
Learn a cool striking combination! Check out more at our instructional martial arts platform at https://fightcoach.tv ! In a good striking combination, the level of the strikes between the head and the body are altered, thus making it hard for the opponent to block them. The JAB-CROSS-LEFT HOOK TO BODY-RIGHT HIGH KICK combination works well because:
1) The jab-right cross punching combination makes the opponent raise his guard to protect the head area. This interferes with his vision and leaves an opening for the left hook to the body. Ideally, this hook should be targeted to the mid right side of the opponent’s upper body. This is where the liver is located. “Liver shots” are responsible for many TKO’s in combat sports. If delivered correctly, this kind of shot can shut down the opponent’s body and make him unable to continue the fight.
2) A rear leg high roundhouse kick to the head of the opponent finishes the “high-low-high” principle, making this a very powerful combo.
3) Pay attention also to how in this combination, the punches come alternating the sides: left-right-left-right. This is the most natural way for a human body to deliver fluid and powerful strikes in a striking combo, as the body rotation from the previous strike can be used to load power into the next strike.
Make sure that after each strike, the hand returns to the side of the face to protect against counter attacks. It is a common mistake to drop guard during longer striking combinations. Pay careful attention to not develop this bad habit when you practice this combination.
