Cross (Straight punch): instructional
Learn the straight cross with Fightcoach. Cross (or straight punch) is a power-punch capable of causing serious, fight-ending knockouts. It is often used in combination with the jab in the classic “1 2” combo. To create maximum power, the rear foot and hips need to turn and punch must be done explosively. The elbow of the punching arm should be kept low for as long as possible, as not to “telegraph” the upcoming punch. For the same reason, the fighter should not “load the punch” (pull the arm slightly backwards before the punch). This is a straight-forward technique that has made its way to the muay thai arsenal from traditional Western boxing, and is used widely in MMA, kickboxing and other combat sports due to its effectiveness.
